Privacy Policy
Amanu is built so that privacy is structural, not a promise. Your voice, your transcripts, and your text never leave your Mac. This page explains the little data that does exist, and who holds it.
Last updated 2 July 2026.
The short version
- The app collects nothing by default. Speech recognition and text cleanup run entirely on your Mac.
- Your audio and transcripts are never uploaded. There is no account and no server to send them to.
- We never see or store your payment details. Our Merchant of Record, Paddle, handles the transaction.
- The only personal data we ever hold is the email address tied to a purchase or a support request.
What the app collects
Nothing, by default. Amanu has no analytics and no telemetry. Your audio is transcribed in memory on the Neural Engine while you hold the key and is not written to disk or sent anywhere. Transcripts, if you keep history at all, are encrypted at rest with a key that lives only in your macOS Keychain, and can be kept for a day, kept forever, or never stored (zero-retention mode).
The app touches the network for exactly three things, none of which carry your dictation:
- Model downloads — the speech and cleanup models are fetched once over HTTPS.
- Update checks — the app asks its update feed whether a newer version exists.
- Crash reports — only if you explicitly opt in, and never including transcript content.
What the website collects
The site is a static marketing and documentation site served through Cloudflare. It sets no tracking or advertising cookies and runs no third-party analytics. Cloudflare processes standard server request logs (such as IP address and user agent) to serve and protect the site; see Cloudflare’s own privacy documentation for how that infrastructure data is handled.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle, which acts as the reseller and Merchant of Record for Amanu. When you buy, Paddle collects and processes your payment and billing information as the data controller for that transaction, under Paddle’s own privacy policy and buyer terms. We never receive, see, or store your card number.
After a completed purchase, Paddle passes us only the information we need to issue your license: your email address and the transaction identifier. We use these to generate and deliver your license and to provide support.
Your license
Your license is a small cryptographically signed file. It contains the email address associated with your purchase and the transaction identifier, so the app can show “Licensed to [email protected]” in Settings. It is verified on your device; it is never sent back to us or to any server.
If you email support, we receive your message and your email address and keep them only as long as needed to help you. License and receipt emails are sent through a transactional email provider (Resend) on our behalf.
Your choices and contact
Because we hold so little, most privacy controls live on your own machine: clear your history, switch on zero-retention, or leave crash reporting off. For anything tied to your email — a copy of what we hold, or its deletion — or for questions about a purchase, contact us at [email protected]. Requests about payment data may be directed to us or to Paddle as the Merchant of Record.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date above.
